HTC Mogul Upgraded to WM 6.1 "breaks" ActiveSync
Hello all - this is my first post here - please be gentle :-)
I've had the Sprint HTC Mogul since April 2008 and I love it! However, at the end of July I upgraded to WM 6.1, using the update on the HTC site, and now I'm having problems with ActiveSync. I was syncing successfully to two PCs running Windows XP Pro, one with Outlook XP and the other with Outlook 2003. When I upgraded the Mogul, I deleted the partnerships and uninstalled AS and reinstalled and created new partnerships.
I now get "active sync encountered a problem on the desktop Support Code 86000107 " on both PCs everytime I sync. I have to go through the Tools > Options and uncheck sync recheck process every time.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks!

Re: HTC Mogul Upgraded to WM 6.1 "breaks" ActiveSync
Hi Kathleen - Welcome to the Connection.
What version of Activesync are you using - you will need the latest which is ActiveSync 4.5.
You might also want to run a scan of your .pst file..
"scanpst.exe" is located in:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033\SCANPST.EXE"
double click on Scanpst.exe and it will ask you to select your Outlook.pst file
To find Outlook.pst file...................................
from OUTLOOK , click on File, Data File Management
Then click on Personal Folders (I have 2, one is the Outlook backup file) - it should say 'Mail Delivery' in the Comments column.
Now click on Settings
On this next screen it will show you the Filename of your Outlook.pst file - use the forward arrow to see the complete file name.
for example, my file is called
C:\Documents and Settings\Laura\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst
Please let us know if this helps.

Re: HTC Mogul Upgraded to WM 6.1 "breaks" ActiveSync
Hi Laura:
Thanks for the quick response! I am running ActiveSync 4.5.0 (Build 5096) - it came with the Mogul. I will try the scanpst and let you know if that helps.

Re: HTC Mogul Upgraded to WM 6.1 "breaks" ActiveSync
So far, so good. I ran the scanpst - it found 20 errors - can that be right? I told it to repair them and it finished. I then rebooted the PC and was able to sync successfully. The true test will be when I try and sync with my PC at work tomorrow. I'll run the scanpst first before I try syncing.
I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you.

Re: HTC Mogul Upgraded to WM 6.1 "breaks" ActiveSync
It seems I don't have an outlook.pst file on my PC at work. I followed the instructions to find it and the only item listed is p:\archive.pst (I keep my "My Documents" folder on a network drive so it will get backed up. I then tried to sync and got the same error message as before. I do connect to an Exchanger 2003 Server at work.
I then tried the solution list here: https://connect.microsoft.com/feedback/Workaround.aspx?FeedbackID=354634&SiteID=502 and was able to sync.
I am now home and I am not going to trying with with my home PC - I am going to wait until I can try suncing again with my work PC again before I try syncing with my home PC.
One other thing - I can't get to this forum from work - it's blocked by my employer's proxy server.

Kathleen Anderson:
Thanks for this link - I didn't know that WM6.1 had a problem with syncing with more than one PC.
You will not have a .pst file when you use an Exchange server - so the scan is not applicable.
I will ask Bill about the proxy server blocking your access.

Re: HTC Mogul Upgraded to WM 6.1 "breaks" ActiveSync
Yep, it is a hugely annoying problem. I documented it in my WM 6.1 review the day the new OS was announced.
What's worse is it usually comes back if you also sync with a WM 6.0 or lower device. The page you linked to should help, but for me it was the Calendar that had the problems... namely recurring auto-generated Birthdays. Most of them were created years and years ago. So what I ended up doing was syncing the WM 6.1 device with both Exchange and my home PC's non-Exchange connected Outlook at the same time, while keeping my separate Tablet PC or work computer connected to Exchange via Outlook 2007.
Then I deleted all of the birthdays in the calendar and recreated them by going to the Contacts section, changing to list view with a Birthday column visible... then cut each birthday out, switch to a different contact to save, switch back and paste the birthday back in. Then switching to another contact again recreated the birthday in the calendar.

Bill:
Do you think there is any chance that this will be fixed so we don't have to resort to workarounds?

Re: HTC Mogul Upgraded to WM 6.1 "breaks" ActiveSync
Hi Adam:
Thanks for the suggestion - I tried it at home - deleting birthdays and anniversaries from my Contacts and then tried to sync and was unsuccessful. Had to go into Tools > Options and uncheck - sync - and then recheck the Calendar and Contacts one at a time. I then ended up with duplicate contacts and some appointments messed up.
This is very discouraging.

Re: HTC Mogul Upgraded to WM 6.1 "breaks" ActiveSync
Well, I gave it one more try at work today. Before syncing, I dleted all birthdays and anniversaries from both the Contacts and the Calendar. I then tried to sync and was unsuccessful. I then deleted and recreated the partnership, I was then able to sync.
At this point, I am giving up trying to sync to both PCs. I am planning on retiring next spring and then will only have to sync to one PC.
Is it possible to get on a mialing list of some kind that would let me know when there's (hopefully) a new version of ActiveSync to try?
