Windows Live and Messenger no longer sync

    Hi

I started using windows live, hotmail, messenger & contacts etc on my Samsung Omina about two months ago and all was working great.  I was using Outlook for hotmail, contacts and calander.  I set up messenger on the mobile device and synced all the contacts etc to be the hotmail contacts.

All of a sudden about a week ago the phone stopped syncing. The message I get with Messenger is "There was a problem signing into Messenger. It may be the service or you may be in a place with bad reception. Please try again later".  With the Sync it just fails.

I don't have any other problems with the mobile and can connect to the internet via Internet Explorer and Opera.  I also have no porblem connecting on other applications I have added like Facebook.

The only thing I can think of that I changed arround that time was I added a new folder when logged into Windows Live Mail on my computer, but I think that was a different day from when the sync stopped working.  I also use USB Windows Live Device Centre to sync the Calender with Outlook, but that worked fine for ages and still syncs find.

Any idea on what has happened?  I have gone through all the settings I can find, but can't find any obvious problem.  Please le me know what my options are.

    Cheers

Is messenger part of your ROM or is it something you've installed? If it is the latter, have you tried uninstalling, soft reseting and reinstalling again?

    Hi

Messenger was pre installed / included with the phone when I purchased it.  Any other suggestions.

Please could you try the following...

    Go to Programs, Windows Live.

Select Menu, Swich Windows Live ID. This will sign you out and then you can sign in again and set up your account again on your device.

Re: Windows Live and Messenger no longer sync

    Hi.

I tried this but it won't let me sign back in.  I get to stage 2 of 5 (email address & pasword) but after pressing next it just closes the window and goes back to the home screen.

Also now as my contacts were part of Windows Live they have now all dissapered off my phone after switching accounts.  I guess they will return when I sign back in if I can find the fault, but it will make things a little difficult for a while.

    Next suggestion please.

    Regards

Re: Windows Live and Messenger no longer sync

    Hi

I am able to log into Windows Live Mail & Contacts on my PC with no problems.

My 300 or so contacts etc are still there on the PC version.  Although I have just realised I have lost all the contact information I entered into my phone since the problem started as it hadn't synced to the PC version and the phone contacts are now empty.  Doh.

Still have no problems using the phone to connect to the internet for other applications.  Just can't log into Windows Live, Messenger and Hotmail.

Note that the Live Search on the Homescreen works fine (althought it defaults to open Opera as the browser.

FYI the Windows Live Version is 10.6.0042.0300 and installed components are Hotmail, Messenger, Spaces, Search & Contacts.  Is there a newer version I need to update to.

Anymore help you can give would be great.  If I can't get it going I will have to go back to using Outlook and using USB Sync, but I want to avoid this if possible.

    Cheers, RubesNZ

How disastrous would a hard reset be for you?

Re: Windows Live and Messenger no longer sync

    Hi

Mmmmmm, sounds serious.  Not sure if I know how to do that or if I want to try.  I guess it means deleting everything off the phone and reloading it.  Where do I get the software from?  Do I still get copies of things like Google Maps and NAVFOne Sat Nav?

Does it delete the Photos & MP3''s off the phone too.

If it deletes everything I will probably just give up and go back to using Outlook and USB connection for the contacts etc and forget about the idea of using Messenger or Windows Live Mail on the phone.

If a hard reset doesn't loose the programs or the documents on the phones I am happy to give it a go.  I might as well as I already have to load all the contacts up again and go through them all to set up the matching ringtones (different for Personal & Business etc) & profile pics (for those not on windows live).

Something to note, I was just with a friend who has the same Samsung Omnia phone and has the exact same problem with connecting to windows live (but she just uses it for messenger).   It started with her about a week after mine stopped working.  About the same time hers stpped working, she had the phone serviced and the faulty motherboard was replaced (it was draining the battery).  She tried to sign in when I was with her and it did exactly the same thing.....  press next on step two after putting in email address and password and the phone thinks for 10 seconds then closes down the login screen.

Let me know what is involved with a hard reset and the details of what software/programs/documents that get deleted and I will work out if I want to try it.

Cheers for all the help Smile

The phone will go back to 'as new' . If you installed any programs, you can reinstall them through Active Sync/ WMDC. You can resync your OUTLOOK data back from PC.

Re: Windows Live and Messenger no longer sync

RubesNZ, I have a couple of suggestions for you if performing a hard reset sounds too drastic:

    1. There is indeed a newer version of Windows Live you might try. You can download directly onto your phone here:

    http://mobile.microsoft.com/live/en-us/mobile/default.mspx

    2. There are FAQ and Release Notes for this version of Live, and one of the notes mentions a conflict between the Samsung Today screen on a different phone and the Live setup process. Although it doesn't mention your phone, this could be something to look into. The workaround is to disable the Samsung Today screen.

So sorry you're having such difficulties with Live. Given your friend's similar experience, I suspect there may be something about the version and/or Samsung device that is causing an issue.

Re: Windows Live and Messenger no longer sync

RubesNZ sent me a private message................................................

Anyway, last night I started backing up my phones documents etc and I removed the memory card.  After I powered it back up I gave the connection another try and all of a sudden it started connecting to messenger again.  I guess it was something to do with removing the battery.  I had done a few soft resets with turning it off and on again with no difference, but after I removed the battery it started working again.  It seems to be working fine now.

I told my friend and she tried the same but it didn't work for her.

    Thanks for all your help.

    Cheers, RubesNZ

Re: Windows Live and Messenger no longer sync

Hi, this is my first post.

Im having the exact same problem as the Original Poster.

Im in Canada and have a Samsung Jack i616.

Messenger and Hotmail no longer Sync if im not connected to my PC via Usb, if im connected to my PC via Usb...then no problem..everything works fine. I can use my internet and also have a Facebook App installed (which i installed post sync issues started).

I tried taking the battery out as above, Ive done a complete Hard Reset, Ive updated my Windows Live Mobile (using the Link above current version is now 10.6.0053.1000) Ive reestablished my connections...I setup my Windows Live Services again...:( i think ive done everything possible.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Please and Thank You in advance..:(
