Syncing Business Contact Manager (BCM) on HTC Touch Pro2

    Hi,

I have recently upgraded from a much loved (but small screened!) HP IPAQ 6915 running WM5 to a lovely new HTC Touch Pro (WM 6.1); I happily used BCM on my old device for 3 years - I work in recruitment so have a LOT of contacts on my laptop database and so only want to sync the ones I've categorised as 'current' to avoid taking up too much space.

I've installed BCM for pocket pc devices onto my Touch Pro2, and although the contacts in BCM do indeed sync (although the pages aren't rendered correctly and consequently a tad squashed looking......but I can live with that Smile ) I cannot select which categories specifically to sync.  In Active Sync on my device the Business Contact Manager line is greyed out and so I cannot check the box or change settings, and when I try to do the same thing in Mobile Device Centre on my laptop by clicking on the underlined 'Change settings' it crashes MDC entirely.

I would be grateful if someone could suggest a way of fixing this really annoying glitch - it would be incredibly frustrating to have spent a load of my hard earned cash on a 'better' device which actually works much less well with BCM than my old one did!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The only version of the PPC BCM seems to talk about WM5 and AS4.1. It's also almost 2 years old. Bill will probably be able to find an official line as to whether this is supported for WM6.1 or whether there is something else to replace it.

    Welcome to The Connection, kitten1711.

What version of OUTLOOK are you running?

Here is a link to BCM for Outlook 2007 which shows support for WM 5.0, 6.0 and 6.1.

    Hi Laura,

    thanks for the warm welcome!

I am running Outlook 2007 for Small Businesses with sp2 on a laptop with Vista Business.

I did in fact install the exact same download you kindly posted the link to & unfortunately this is the one that's caused the problems Confused - I removed the 'old' version & then reinstalled it again just now to be certain.

Having searched around online it would appear that issues with BCM for mobile devices are quite common......

Yes, I see this blog with people having similar problems.

We'll see if we can get more info on this.

Hi, kitten1711 - I'm going to check with our internal contacts at Windows Mobile to see if we can learn anything more about the issues with BCM. Stay tuned. And welcome!

One thing I just noticed is that a service pack for the desktop BCM was issued on April 27 of this year. Have you downloaded and installed this? I'm not sure if that's what you meant in your post. The link is:

    Hi Bill,

sorry - I'm by no means the most 'techie' person but I can get by Big Smile

I've just checked & yes, Business Contact Manager for Outlook Service Pack 2 was installed on my laptop on 14th May 2009.

    Hope this helps.

If you are using Outlook 2007, do you have the add-in installed?  If not, you can get the add-in here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=D9620097-E8F9-41F3-AE66-A7067DAC7ACE&displaylang=en

Note, you will want the install for Professional devices, so be sure to scroll down to the System Requirements section and select the link for devices with a touch screen.

Welcome to The Connection, 2GrokMobile - thanks for this link which is the non-touch screen software with a link to the touch screen software.

I believe kitten711 has this installed correctly, along with Service Pack 2 which Bill posted a link to.

Any more ideas, though, would be very welcome.

    thanks.

kitten1711, is your Vista Business 64bit, or 32bit?

Thanks for the welcome Laura!  I did say in my post that link for touch screens was further down.  Although it was pretty lame that I didn't see the other post confirming the install.

    Hi Brian,

it's 32 bit.  I has an IPAQ 6915 (running WM 5) previously which sync'd BCM fine with the same laptop & version of Vista, so can only assume that the difference (i.e. trouble causer in this case) is Windows Mobile 6.1.

Hi Kitten1711, thanks for the response.  We have seen issues with WMDC and 6.1.  Would it be possible for you to move back to WMDC 6.0 to see if that resolves this issue.

The problem with the pages not being rendered correctly appear to be an issue with the way that BCM Mobile interacts with the resolution of the HTC Touch Pro.
