Re: Bing - Mobile Edition
And in more Bing news: There's now a client update available for the standalone Live Search for Windows Mobile application - that's right, it's Bing for Windows Mobile! To get the update, just open the Live Search app and then click Menu > Client Update Available. Or you can go to the Bing for Windows Mobile download site on your phone here: http://m.bing.com/download/ A couple of things to note here: As WMExperts is reporting, this is simply a rebranding of the Live Search application, to match the Web-based Bing search engine. New functionality is expected later this year, but for now, this is just a new and improved look and feel. In addition, this updated Bing application is ONLY available for Windows Mobile at the moment! Sweet!

Re: Bing - Mobile Edition
Mayhem12: Kicked me out without out doing the update. Any takers on why this happens?
I didn't update using the "Client Update Available" link in the menu - I actually went to the download URL I copied above, which seemed to work just fine. So I'm not sure why you might have been unable to update. Have you tried the direct link? [EDIT] To test the Update link, I uninstalled Bing, then opened the Live Search app and clicked the Client Update Available link from the menu. The result: I got to the CAB download, but IE said it couldn't download the file. I clicked "Retry" and then it downloaded successfully. Is this what you saw, Mayhem12? Perhaps there's some issue with the way the Client Update link works...

Re: Bing - Mobile Edition
I had the same problem. Live Search stopped working and Bing update would not download from the Microsoft page, even though my network connecton was working. I managed to download it on my notebook and transfer the file to my PDA. It did install, but it falis connect to the internet, even though my other apps (Explorer, Skype, Google maps, etc) connect without any problems. It is really frustrating - I decided to get rid of this buggy application altogether even though I found it useful in the past. I use Google Maps instead which is working just fine. Typical Microsoft - each "upgrade" is less user friendly than the previous version.

Interesting- I've found this latest version to be pretty darn stable. I sent my usual WinMo phone (HTC Tilt/TyTn II) off to the shop for repair yesterday (the camera apparently forgot it's supposed to be able to autofocus!), and was setting up my old HTC Wizard for temporary use, (I tried using my wife's old HTC Excalibur first, but just couldn't come to grips with not having a touchscreen!) and Bing was my first "must install" app on both devices- it downloaded, installed, and runs just fine on both, even in their comparitively limited memory. It's a much better and more featured app than Google Maps with one glaring exception- Google's "Mass Transit" directions are awesome for urban use. For driving, however, there's no comparison.

Re: Bing - Mobile Edition
Thanks for your response. However, I was finally able to install Bing on my PDA, but the problem is that it DOES NOT WORK after the installation. It fails to connect to the internet and I repeatedly receive the following error message "We cannot complete your search. Please check your netwrok connection." I cannot even change the default location Seattle, WA, let alone search anything. My network connection is just fine - all other apps (Skype, Google maps, Outlook and IE) can access it - only Bing cannot. FYI, I am using Asus A626 running Windows Mobile 6.0 - which is a PDA, not a phone, and a wi-fi connection via Verizon DSL service.

Laura Rooke:Are you located in the U.S. ?
Yes (DC area) and I was able to use Live Search before. It just stopped working with the introduction of Bing. No other app on my PDA is affected.

Laura Rooke:I'm also wondering if Bing needs a data connection? I use wi-fi data connection not a phone. Is there any other data connection that you have in mind?
