Only able to sync files & mobile favorites on Vista Ultimate 64-bit

     Hi Everybody,

After being repeately nagged by windows to install WMDC, I caved in.  Shortly afterwards, I happend to re-install the os [winmo 6.1] on my TYTN II device & tried to sync my contacts & calender info from my Vista Ultimate 64-bit desktop machine.  I immediately noticed that WMDC would not allow me to sync anything except for Mobile Favorites & Files.  As far as I can remember, prior to installing WMDC, I was able to sync my contacts & calender items from this same pc.

Fortunately, I did have my phone paired/associated with my Windows XP 32-bit laptop as well which allowed me to sync & restore all my contacts & calender items to my phone.  Even after a successful synce with my laptop, I'm still not able to update my Vista desktop with my phones contact/calender items.  Am I missing something or is this a bug/by design?

I should also note that I DO NOT have any version of Office installed on this pc.  Only the default mail & contact windows apps what shipped with Vista are on this machine.  Is this the issue?

ps.  sorry for the long post

    Regards,
    Paul

Re: Only able to sync files & mobile favorites on Vista Ultimate 64-bit

Welcome, Paul. If you don't have Office or Outlook on your 64-bit machine, you wouldn't be able to sync Contacts and Calendar on the phone with the built-in Vista apps. Did you have Outlook at some point on this or the other desktop? WM is only designed to work with Outlook on the desktop - or, if it works for you, you might consider trying Hotmail on your desktop, or some of the Outlook alternatives people have mentioned elsewhere on the forum: here is the thread.

Another idea comes from frequent contributor Adam Lein:

Another option that should work, is to download the trial version of Outlook 2007, install the Outlook Connector for Hotmail, download your Windows Live Calendar into Outlook, then sync it to your Windows Phone with WMDC/ActiveSync, then install Microsoft MyPhone and use that to manage your calendar instead of Windows Live or Outlook.

Thanks for your response Bill & pointing me to the other active thread.  I'll post my response there.
