    Windows Live SEARCH Wishlist

In addition to way better GPS and voice recognition integration, here's a few other things I'd like to see in the Windows Live Search for Windows Mobile application:

    1. Weather radar overlay on the Map view with animate option.  How awesome would that be??  Currently, I use Accuweather's mobile site in order to load an animated GIF of the weather radar map.  This comes in handy very often.  When meeting for softball at the park, it started pouring rain one time, so I looked at the weather map and could see how big the storm was. We determined that it would be dry if we went to the diner for lunch first, and sure enough it was clear by the time we had taken in a few omlettes and chocolate shakes.  Anyway, having weather radar maps integrated with Live Search would be an awesome feature.
    2. Restaurant reservations integration.  It would be great if I could search for restaurant locations and reservation availability. This could integrate with the OpenTable system.  I love OpenTable, but the mobile site is difficult to use since it does not easily integrate with my location.  Live Search is pretty good at finding restaurants near my location, but it's not very good at finding good restaurants and reservation availability. Imagine being able to search for Opentable restaurants around your location that have reservations available for a specific day/time range!   Now that I think about it, maybe it's already possible to create a list of Opentable restaurants for the "My Collections" section of Live Search Mobile.  If anyone figures out how to do that before I do, please feel free to create a new thread, or URL me.

What else would be right up Live Search's alley?

Integrating OpenTable with LiveSearch would be totally cool - what a great idea!

Maybe the same with tickets to movies, concerts, games and so on?

I love the weather radar idea, that would be so cool. How about petrol prices? Or if we're getting adventurous how about comparing prices on local supermarkets from a small item list?

Gas/Petrol prices will already show up on Live Search, though it amazes me that it can keep up with the ever changing prices.

Supermarket comparisons would be a great idea - like where can I get the cheapest toilet paper (loo rolls) this week?

    Laura Rooke:

Does that part not work in the UK maybe??

    Laura Rooke:

There we go!  Buying expensive loo rolls is like flushing money down the toilet.  :)

But then it would also have to calculate the amount of gas you would burn in travelling to the place that has the cheapest toilet paper so that you can evaluate whether or not it's worth spending the extra gasoline.

That would actually be pretty useful... a trip expense calculator that aproximates how much money's worth of gas your vehicle will burn based on driving directions you may have just calculated. You would have to enter your car's miles/gallon estimation into the preferences of course.

Movie ticket buying is sort of in there already. It's accessed from "More Movie Info" in the movie details section on Live Search (which opens the web browser).  The system is powered by Movietickets.com and MSN, so you can't get tickets from theaters that use Fandango instead.  It also doesn't show which showtimes are sold-out, but that type of information is not usually very accurate on the websites anyway.  A more prominant "But Tickets" option would definitely be nice... as would the ability to choose a different day other than today.

I was thinking more of concert tickets where you want to see what seats are available. I'm trying to buy Coldplay tickets and this is why I thought of this. Now I can get the tickets , I just need a way of finding someone to go with me.....

I would go with you but it is to far to travel. Of course if I was 20 years younger distance would never have stopped me. I am sure now that you have mentioned it on here someone will volunteer to go with you.

Same here, if it wasn't for the distance I'd go with you.  Been a while since I've seen Coldplay too.

Last time I saw them live was in 2000 I think, supporting Muse at Portsmouth Pyramids.

Coldplay were cool, and then Muse rocked. Awesome gig. Takes me back....... Big Smile

    Re: Windows Live SEARCH Wishlist

Here's a page on Liveside about making Live Maps collections show up in Live Search for Windows Mobile.  It looks like all OpenTable would need to do is create an RSS feed in the proper syntax with all of the restaurant listings, positioning data, and links to the mobile site for reservation searching.  They could probably even add links in the restaurants' details that show what time slots are available for the current day.

I've emailed them here, with the suggestion to add that feature.  Feel free to send them your votes as well.

Hmmm - looks interesting and useful. I didn't even realise that an update to Live Search Mobile was available - all I had to do to get the update was to click on the Menu button in Live Search on my device and then click on 'Client Update Available'  - this is greyed out if you have the latest one.

It's a little OT but there was an article on the news yesterday in the UK saying Google are planning on snapping streets from a first person perspective, as opposed to an overhead 2d approach. Apparently folks in the UK are up in arms about privacy issues. I think it'd be cool.

    Re: Windows Live SEARCH Wishlist

Google has already compiled these first-person "Street Views" for many areas in the US - and it's certainly fascinating, although more for the "voyeur" value than for a strong practical application. I suppose it's nice to be able to see where you're going from a street perspective in some instances... Checking out the neighborhood around your hotel, for example.

    Re: Windows Live SEARCH Wishlist

I find it's easier to appreciate a street when you see it as opposed to the birds eye view. You're right though, from a practical perspective I guess it wouldn't make that much difference. So do the do they photograph the streets in segments or all at each end?
