ZoomSafer Safe Driving Software Now Available on Windows Mobile Phones

This article is from Earthtimes :
ZoomSafer, the leading provider of policy management software to prevent distracted driving, today announced the launch of the commercial version of its smartphone software for Windows Mobile devices.

ZoomSafer helps consumer and corporate motorists break some of their most dangerous driving habits. The simple-to-use software promotes responsible and legal use of mobile phones while driving and eliminates the dangerous temptation to text, email, or browse the web while driving.

“Our safe driving software is now available on more than 17 million BlackBerry and Windows Mobile smart phones in North America and we’ll soon have support for Android phones as well,” said ZoomSafer co-founder and CEO Matt Howard. “Our innovative and flexible solution addresses head-on the complexities of the distracted driving epidemic and we’re dedicated to making ZoomSafer available on as many different phones as possible.”

ZoomSafer’s flexible solution provides families, mobile professionals and corporations the ability to define and enforce safe driving policies. Policy customizations include:

    • Launch automatically or manually
    • Restrict access to text, email, and web while driving
    • Auto-reply to text, email, and missed phone calls
    • Make and receive hands-free phone calls
    • Manage inbound and outbound phone calls based on priority
    • Enable or disable passenger-exit option

Looks like it uses GPS to determine the speed you're going and then automatically start. Not quite sure how reliable that set up would be.

I don't really get it - I would rather just not use the phone while driving - software would not help me discipline myself like this.

Also, if it's speed related, what if you stopped at traffic lights or something? Would it cut off?

To me, this sounds like an idea being marketed to Moms and Dads to install on teens' phones. Of course, I'd like to meet the determined teen incapable of bypassing it... Wink
