    My Phone is here!

Out of beta and with some new features, too.

    Find and Protect

Your phone can contain a wide spectrum of private data, from your family’s addresses and telephone numbers to personal photos and financial information. The thought of losing that information is scary. The thought of that information falling into the wrong hands is terrifying. While My Phone won’t keep a thief away or stop you from misplacing your mobile device, it will certainly work wonders getting it back into your hands safely.  Now available free to all customers through the My Phone web portal is the ability to map the location of your mobile device by its last sync or photo post. Also available from the My Phone web portal in certain markets is the new Premium Features Package. The Premium Package includes the abilities to Ring your phone when it’s set for vibrate or silent, Map your phone’s current location, remotely Lock your phone and post an ‘if found’ message on its screen, and even Erase your phone completely. So even if your mobile device isn’t physically in your hands, you never lose control of it or the information it holds.

As part of the Windows phone launch, we are offering free trial access to the Premium Package through 11/30/2009. After the trial period, all new and existing users will additionally get one (1) free use.  After the trial period and first free use, activating the Premium Package will require a one-time fee of $4.99 for access over a 7-day period that includes (3) Rings, (3) Maps, (1) Lock and (1) Erase.

    Social Media Photo Sharing
During the My Phone beta, users were able to view and download photos from the My Phone web portal. Now, My Phone users can not only view photos, but post them directly to their favorite social networking sites like Windows Live, Facebook, Myspace and Flickr from either the My Phone web portal or straight from their mobile device.

    ·         Do you have any questions about My Phone’s location and security features?

    ·         What do you think about My Phone’s photo sharing features? What are your customers saying?

I have been testing the new features on my phone for free trial. This is very simple and straight forward and easy to use. Thanks for your work and continued advancements.

I am still concerned about using My Phone. The last time I used it ,when I added a second phone, it duplicated my contacts both on web on phone and in Outlook.

There is a "remove duplicates" option in the web portal, but I'm leery of adding multiple phones as well.  I added my old phone to test remote wipe with, and after the old phone uploaded its old photos and documents to MyPhone, they synced back to my current phone, forcing me to slog through a bunch of old files and delete them!

(I should've created a new Hotmail/Live/MyPhone account for the second phone, but I was being lazy!)

As I've mentioned before in a few sync threads, multiple syncing "engines" connecting to multiple sync sources on multiple devices is asking for trouble.  Ideally, you should've wiped out the contacts from the second phone, and let MyPhone populate the phone with the data, which would've come (originally) from the first phone.

In essence, you (personally, as someone with a bushel basket of Windows Phones!) could use MyPhone to keep all of your WM6+ devices in sync with Outlook on your main PC without physically connecting them all: sync your main phone (the Advantage or the Pure, you decide!) with Outlook like you always do, then add it to a fresh (empty!) MyPhone account, which will upload all of its PIM data to MyPhone.  Now wipe the PIM data from the other WM6 phones (by deleting their Outlook partnerships) and add them to the same MyPhone account.  This way, they'll be syncing once a day with the "master" phone via MyPhone, and never have to sync directly with your PC again.  Only the master device would ever have to physically connect to the PC.

    Re: My Phone is here!

OK - will have to think about all this.

I have other problems with this service - not all my calendar items are uploaded. Also the search feature in  Contacts doesn't seem to work.

    Hi Laura,

Not sure what about the calendar issue.  Suggest you post the issue to the My Phone forum and see if they can help you troubleshoot the issue http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/MyPhone/threads/.

On the Search not working.  This is a known deployment issue and should resolve itself once the migration of beta user data is 100% complete.  No promises, but expect this problem will go away in the next 24 hours.

     Thanks, Michael

    Re: My Phone is here!

Seems like recurring Calendar events do not show up in web portal.

Nice catch!  They do show up on the day of their original occurance, I believe, and they seem to sync properly as an occuring event, but each instance of the occurance doesn't seem to show up on the portal calendar.

    Re: My Phone is here!

...and now sure enough , a whole load of my calendar items have been duplicated - there needs to be more control as to what is syncing to what.
