I have a Samsung Omnia with Verizon Wireless as the carrier.  Live is not pre-installed on the mobile device but I've added the application.  Using the messaging icon, I've followed the prompts to complete the email setup but cannot get it to work.  I'm inclined to think that there may be a problem with the email address/account, since I've successfully setup up other msn/live/hotmail accounts on the exact same device and cannot setup this particular hotmail address on not just this device but any of my mobile devices - "regular" handsets or smartphones.  Suggestions?  Known Issues?  Anyone...?

 At what point is it failing? Are going through the full setup and then it just won't connect? Have you tested your internet connection is working correctly?

Internet connection is working just fine.  Setup fails at 2/5.  Keep receiving error message that "either name and/or password is invalid".  Hotmail account/address was created in 2000 (I think).  A little older...could that be contributing to an incompatibility issue?

What are you using as your user name. You may need the whole email address , rather than just the part before the @

 

Hi, L810. I think you are correct that the age of the account may be an issue. We had another discussion about Live and Hotmail here, where several users talked about issues with older Hotmail accounts. Switching to a new Live.com address seemed to solve the problem for them. There are also some release notes for Windows Live for WM that may give you some clues.

Thank you for the input thus far.  If I "switch" the existing, regular hotmail account to a new live account, will it be an entirely new email account?  Will all the contacts, messages, etc., be lost?  If it doesn't and everything about the account is retained, just updated to Live, how do I go about doing that?  When logged into the regular hotmaiI account, I can't seem to find a link, menu or setting that allows me to.  In all honestly, I haven't used my personal hotmail account in ages.  The email and device setup I'm having problems with is for a customer whom I've just sold the Omnia to.

Yes, this will be a new account with new contacts and messages. You could forward your messages from your old account to this new account.

Here's what worked for me:

On your Omnia, tap Start, Messaging, Setup E-mail.

enter your email address without the "hotmail" portion, e.g., example@.com.  This way, it won't try to connect to Windows Live.

Tap Next.

Details you'll need to know to get it working:

POP server:  pop3.live.com

POP SSL required?  Yes

User name:  Your Windows Live ID, e.g., example@hotmail.com

Password:  The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live.

SMTP server:  smtp.live.com

Authentication required:  Yes

TLS/SSL required:  Yes

 

 

having same issue, can receive using hotmail but can not send for past several months.  How do you know if you are using new live account.  I know I think I have an old account but it looks like it is new and live.  how do I tell?  Then what do I use for phone settings?

This doesn't sound as if you are using the Windows Live program to set this up. This looks like you have manually configured the hotmail email account in your messaging program on your device.

 I would delete this account. Then download Windows Live for Windows Mobile here.
